Watermelon Cocktails

If your productive afternoons sometimes turn into experimental cocktail tastings like ours do, then we hope you enjoy this post about watermelon cocktails as much as we enjoyed drinking our subject. Most of us are well aware of the negative effects that alcohol has on our body; loss of electrolytes, dehydration, anxiety & an overall depletion of essential vitamins & minerals. So, we decided to use watermelon juice as a base for our cocktails this time to help restore & re-hydrate.

Watermelon juice contains high levels of vitamin C, B & A, as well as boasting the same amount of potassium and magnesium as coconut water. These vital nutrients help aid your system in balancing out electrolytes, in addition to helping you flush out toxins like ammonia & uric acid.

We’ve concocted a pair of mouth-watering, hydrating, anti-oxidant rich yumminess for you to try out on one of these warm summer days. We love using fresh herbs in our cocktails & mocktails, and this time we incorporated mint, basil and berries. Crisp, refreshing & incredibly aromatic. The fun thing about making your own drinks is the experimentation process. Anything goes!

Blended Watermelon Margarita with Coconut-Basil Simple Syrup

Ingredients:

(Makes 3-4 drinks)

3 cups chopped seedless organic watermelon

Handful of ice

4-5 shots of blanco tequila (6-7.5 oz)

1 12oz bottle of watermelon water

3-4 Tbsp simple syrup

½ cup filtered water

½ cup organic coconut sugar

Lime

Small bunch of basil

Coconut-Basil Simple Syrup

Start by roughly chopping a small handful of basil leaves (about 4-5 leaves). In a small saucepan combine water, coconut sugar & basil. Continually stir over medium/low heat for 5 minutes, allowing the sugar to dissolve and the basil to infuse the liquid. Turn off heat and strain into a small bowl. Set in fridge & allow mixture to cool for 10-15 minutes.

The Prize:

Combine watermelon, juice, syrup, tequila & ice; blend. Pour into glass of choice and garnish with a slice of lime and a few basil leaves. Sit back & enjoy!

If your not in the drinkin’ mood, try whipping up this ultra-hydrating watermelon & chia seed refresher:

Watermelon-Chia Mocktail

1 12 oz. bottle of watermelon water

2 Tbsp. organic chia seeds

¼ cup organic blueberries

Simply crack open a fresh bottle of WTRMLN WTR & divide equally between 2 glasses. Add 1 Tbsp. of chia seeds to each glass, along with blueberries. Stir & let gel in the refrigerator for 10-20 minutes. Remove from fridge, stir (It’s normal for juice to separate) & garnish with fresh mint. Voila!

Cheers! to the start of an incredible summer filled with new adventures & lots of love.
